Halloween has now become a staple festival in the Spanish calendar, arriving from America and establishing popularity thanks to the opportunity it offers to dress up in fun costumes and eat lots of sweets – what’s not to love?!
The Trick or Treat tradition has firmly taken hold, and if you live in an urbanisation, your kids will probably want to join in. If you don’t have your own children, make sure you have some sweet treats to hand for when you get a knock on the door.
Local schools have also taken up the tradition, and many will allow children to go to school in fancy dress – beware of zombies and ghouls on the school run!
Most bars and restaurants in the centre of Marbella, Puerto Banús and Benahavís also offer Halloween specials, so keep an eye out to see what is going on at your favourite watering hole.
Marbella Town Hall has been growing its Halloween offering following Covid restrictions and has announced that Halloween will be bigger and better than ever this year. The fun will be taking place around the Parque de la Represa, like last year, which will be turned into a Haunted Park for the evening. Events planned include a parade of Zombies and a Passage of Terror, and unlike last year, there is no need to buy tickets. Just put on your spookiest Halloween costume and go and join in, it’s free and there’s something for young and old alike.
Benahavís Town Hall also go all out when it comes to Halloween. The main street gets fully adorned in Halloween decorations and there is usually a Tunnel Of Terror and live music. It gets busy but is great fun with a family atmosphere.
Lots of bars and restaurants have published their itinerary for ghoulish goings-on, there are too many to mention, so we’ve picked just a couple holding some fun activities for families. In the weekend leading up to Halloween, La Sala will be anticipating the festivities with some creepy thrills on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th October. They’re inviting all Marbella Mini-Monsters along to their Fang-Tastic Breakfast Bash, where for €15 which includes breakfast and a drink, little ones can join in a morning full of ‘Spooky fun, Boo-gieing and Halloween games’. There’s a prize for the best-dressed family, so make sure you get your outfit organised in good time! Cat’s Kitchen also has prizes for best-dressed adults and children, along with children’s workshops and a DJ set. In many cases, places are limited, so call and book before you head out.
