American-based United Airlines recently announced that from June 2023 they will be laying on direct flights to New York’s Newark Airport, making travel between the US and Spain that bit easier for holidaymakers and business travellers.
This is not the first time that the two cities are to have a direct connection – Delta Airlines also maintained the same route for eleven years, until it was suspended in November 2019. However, discussions with several American airlines were subsequently initiated as local business leaders deem a direct flight to be of strategic importance.
This will also be good news for Americans looking to live, work and invest in the region. Marbella is a well-known brand over the pond, and interest has grown steadily as remote working has become more widespread and the potential to live, or at least spend part of the year, in Marbella has become more feasible.
The attractions of the area for Americans are numerous. Spain’s stable economy and Marbella’s relatively safe community are a big draw, while the enviable climate with year-round sun and mild winter temperatures is very appealing, as is the fact that Marbella offers a high standard of living at a lower cost compared to many cities in the United States, making it an attractive option for retirees, for example, or those looking to stretch their retirement savings.
The high quality of public health as well as a wide range of private options are also particularly attractive to US citizens. Schooling also needn’t be a problem, with the American College in Puerto Banús offering families transfer between schools with relatively little disruption in their children’s education. The fact that English is so widely spoken is also a boon for Americans.
The process of moving to Spain needn’t be too painful either. Digital nomads, and those looking to invest €500,000 or more in Spanish property, will find it a relatively simple process to obtain a resident’s visa (Golden Visa or so-called Digital Nomad Visa, which has just been passed by the Spanish government.).
American Airlines’ new service will begin on June 2nd, with flights leaving Malaga at 1155, arriving at 1430 in New York, with flights scheduled for Tuesday. Thursday and Saturday until the end of September.
Marbella Hills Homes has a fabulous range of beautiful villas, wonderful apartments and fabulous penthouses for Americans – and any other nationality! – wishing to take advantage of the new direct flights. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information.
