We all have our favourites, and everyone’s favourite beach restaurant will be different. From the classic chiringuito offering the freshest of fish and the perfect paella, to spectacular gourmet creativity. With so many beach clubs on the Costa del Sol, however, it can be hard to make up your mind. Let us offer you few tips and ideas on where to go if you want vibrant music, delicious gourmet cuisine or a breathtaking sunset – whatever you are looking for in a beach club, you can be sure to find it on the Costa del Sol.
Estepona
Estepona is rapidly becoming the place to be, as its stature as a great family-friendly holiday resort is being rivalled by a reputation for upmarket restaurants, simply stunning new property offerings, and of course, 21km of some of the best beaches on the coast. It is also rivalling its next-door neighbour Marbella with upmarket beach clubs. Ibiza favourite Pacha is getting ready for a grand opening this summer, however, just along the beach is another of the White Isle’s best-loved beach clubs – Beso Beach. That its gourmet offering is amongst the best you will find on the Costa del Sol, a tantalising fusion of Basque and Mediterranean flavours, is a good enough reason to visit, but the beautiful Playa El Padron also offers a stunning destination from where to enjoy the best food and watch the sun play on the sparkling Mediterranean.
Marbella
The original gourmet destination, Marbella, is spoilt for upmarket beach restaurants with the Golden Mile being the ultimate setting to find exquisite cuisine in the most stunning of locations. Five-star sister hotels, The Marbella Club and the Puente Romano, each have offerings vying for the title of the best beach restaurant. MC Beach (by The Marbella Club, naturally) reflects traditional Malagueñan cuisine such as salt-encrusted sea bass and squid ink-blackened paella, while the Puente Romano’s choices include Chiringuito Puente Romano’s ‘lively Mediterranean vibe’ offering healthy choices and cocktails, or the Sea Grill’s fine dining with the freshest of food from the sea directly to your plate.
Further along the Paseo Maritimo in front of the Gran Melia Hotel, and perched right over the sea, is a local favourite, Diblú Beach Restaurant. With a lower terrace that is right on the shore, the food more than lives up to the superb location, with fresh, beautifully prepared seafood combined with excellent service.
All are a feast for the senses, delectable food served with the scent of the sea breeze, an unforgettable experience.
East Marbella
Not to be outdone, East Marbella also offers residents and holidaymakers in the area a wide choice of seaside fine dining. La Plage Casanis on the Estrella de Mar beach is a local favourite, the restaurant representing the beachside location for the original gourmet experience Casanis in Marbella’s Old Town. The food is fresh, eclectic and simply delicious.
A relative newcomer is Nosso, the décor is original with a definite upmarket boho vibe – there’s even a boutique onsite to really get into the bohemian style. A diverse menu featuring Asian-Mediterranean-Nikkei style gastronomy – including sushi prepared by Chef Carlos Navarro, ‘5º best Sushiman in ‘Tokio’s World Sushi Cup’’ makes it well worth seeking this exciting spot out.
With almost a different restaurant for every day of the year, the beach restaurants of the area offer that special experience of dining by the sea, and when the restaurants themselves are so good, it elevates savouring food by the sea into something truly extraordinary.
