The public’s interest in spectacular upmarket property has been piqued following a wildly successful series of programmes shadowing the ups and downs of real estate agents in Los Angeles. The real stars of the show, though, have been the properties. Those of us who work in the real estate business in Marbella know that we don’t have to look as far as Beverly Hills to find spectacular properties, however, as this area is blessed with more than its fair share of luxury villas and fabulous apartment complexes – and the exclusive gated urbanisation of Sierra Blanca is where they are to be found.
Exclusive gated urbanisation, minutes from the famed Golden Mile The timeless appeal of Sierra Blanca resides in its impeccable location. Nestling 300m above sea level in the foothills of the mountain range for which it is named, it is sheltered by a micro-climate that offers equable year-round temperatures, with warm sunny summers and mild winters. The backdrop of La Concha mountain adds to its appeal, offering views that could have been painted in a Hollywood studio lot.
Although its position means that most houses in this exclusive urbanisation have a sea and/ or mountain view, it is its location between the natural setting of the hillside juxtaposed with the proximity of Marbella’s Golden Mile which is the main attraction of Sierra Blanca. The Golden Mile is the town’s luxurious epicentre, the place to see and be seen at sophisticated beach clubs, renowned five-star hotels and fine dining establishments. Mostly set to villas, there are approximately 300 luxurious houses in the urbanisation that began life as a hillside dotted with exclusive residences, but really gained in popularity when it was urbanised in 1995. Most villas are still set in their own grounds, ensuring peace and tranquillity, while the 24-hour gated entrance assures security and privacy.
Cosmopolitan ambience, upmarket residents With prices in Sierra Blanca starting at €2m, and exceeding much more in many cases, this is where the great and the good of Marbella’s local and international high society reside. Houses here tend to be large family homes in a well-maintained traditional Andalucian style – although many have been beautifully refurbished to accommodate modern tastes – as well as contemporary villas recently constructed.
The tendency for houses here is to be laid out over three levels, with many boasting fabulous sea and mountain views, manicured gardens, swimming pools and basement levels that house private cinemas, bars, indoor pools, spa and sauna areas. A recent trend is to create a state-of-the-art bodega, constructed from glass and chrome, and hire a dedicated company to curate a selection of the finest wines to fill it. Garages for many cars are also de rigueur. Sierra Blanca is one of our favourite Marbella neighbourhoods and we’d love to help you find your perfect property in its peaceful, tree-lined streets.
