Living in El Madroñal, Marbella

Living in El Madroñal brings you closer to nature. Sitting above the Guadaiza river, its slopes are planted with cork trees, pines and a variety of shrubs to provide a lush, verdant landscape. It is not short of wildlife either, and wild boars, deer and mountain goats roam the terrain, although residents needn’t worry about them invading their garden as they stick to their own domain.

Birdwatchers will be interested to know that the area is also home to many bird species, including the Peregrine Falcon, the Goshawk and Sparrowhawk, and if you venture up to the highest points of the Sierra de las Nieves, which forms the backdrop to El Madroñal, you may be fortunate enough to see either a Golden Eagle or a Bonelli Eagle soaring up against the blue sky.

All of this may make it sound as if El Madroñal is some distance from the coast, but it is only a ten-minute drive from Puerto Banús and 40 minutes from Málaga airport. For everyday shopping, you can be in nearby San Pedro with its supermarkets and boutiques within ten minutes. This lively little town also offers a wide range of restaurants and bars, ranging from traditional Spanish to modern European cuisine. And, on the town’s beachside, the new San Pedro boulevard with its gastro bars and children’s play areas is another hub of activity, as is San Pedro beach, which features some of the best chiringuitos (beach bars) on the Costa del Sol. Although, when you live in El Madroñal there are also some excellent restaurants within walking distance of your own residence.

It is an excellent location too for families with school age children, as there are a number of international schools within easy reach, such as Laude in San Pedro and Swans International School and Aloha College in Nueva Andalucía, as well as a range of leisure activities, including gyms, golf, horse riding, tennis and much more.

There are many advantages to living in El Madroñal. It is a mature development, dating back to the 1950s when the first villas were built, and remains one of the most desirable residential areas on the Costa del Sol. El Madroñal offers an enviable quality of life and prestigious properties, each of which has a distinct style and a feeling of county chic exclusivity.
